The Psychiatric NeuroCognition lab is directed by Dr. Emily Stern, Research Scientist at the Nathan Kline Institute and Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the New York University School of Medicine.

Current Lab members:

Goi Khia Eng, Ph.D. Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Goi Khia graduated in 2019 with a Ph.D in Psychology from the Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) where she evaluated neural correlates underlying Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) using magnetic resonance imaging techniques. Prior to her graduate studies, she was a research psychologist at the Singapore Institute of Mental Health where she worked with patients who were diagnosed with schizophrenia and older adults with dementia. Her current research involves understanding the neural underpinnings of sensory phenomena in OCD and she aims to utilize non-invasive stimulation methods to elucidate the pathophysiology of these processes.

Laura Bragdon, Ph.D. Clinical Instructor at NYU

Laura received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Binghamton University and completed her pre-doctoral internship at VA Boston Healthcare System. Dr. Bragdon has received extensive training in evidence-based treatment and assessment of OCD, anxiety, and related disorders. Her research interests focus on the processes underlying clinical heterogeneity within OCD, as well as clarifying how specific mechanisms of cognitive-behavioral therapy contribute to symptom improvement in OC and anxiety-related psychopathology.

Nicolette Recchia, B.S. Research Coordinator at NKI

Nicolette graduated from Binghamton University in 2020 where she worked as a research assistant for the Binghamton Mood Disorders Institute and earned her B.S. in integrative neuroscience. During her time as an undergraduate research assistant, she explored attentional biases in adolescents with a history of non-suicidal self-injury. Nicolette is interested in the neurobiology of mood and anxiety disorders, and she plans to pursue a doctoral degree in psychology or neuroscience after her time in the lab.

Jeanmarie Harvey, B.S. Research Coordinator at NKI

Jeanmarie graduated from Stockton University in 2022 where she worked with Stockton EEG Lab. During her time as an undergraduate research assistant she studied the relationship between grit, conscientiousness and cognition. After her time in the lab Jeanmarie is interested in pursuing a graduate degree in psychology. Outside of the lab, Jeanmarie enjoys running and enjoying nature.

Rachael Moldow, B.S. Research Coordinator at NKI

Rachael graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2023 where she worked with the Anxiety and Stress Lab, Positive Emotions and Psychophysiology Lab, and Social Neuroscience and Health Lab. During her time as an undergraduate learning assistant, she completed an honors thesis exploring how neurotransmitter education impacts stigmatizing beliefs towards antidepressant medications. Rachael is interested in the neurobiological mechanisms and treatment of OCD, and plans to pursue a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology after her time in the lab.
