Participation in our studies occurs through the New York University School of Medicine location in Midtown Manhattan and the Nathan S. Kline Institute location in Orangeburg, NY. Some appointments may be completed remotely (via videoconference) and in many cases assistance with transportation to the Nathan Kline Institute can be provided.

Below is a list of the studies our lab is actively running.

HETEROGENEITY IN Obsessive-compulsive disorder AND DEPRESSION

Do you have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and/or Depression? If so, you might be eligible for a research study looking at clinical symptoms, behavior, and brain function in these disorders at NYU Langone Health and the Nathan Kline Institute. You must be between the ages of 18 and 55 and in good physical health. If eligible, we will ask you to participate in 1-3 separate appointments (some may be done remotely) for a total time commitment of approximately 6 to 12 hours. You will be reimbursed for your participation at a rate of 25 dollars per hour.

During this experiment you will be asked to complete some computer tasks while having your brain activity measured using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). We will also ask you about your health and to fill out some questionnaires about your emotions.

If you want us to contact you to tell you more about the study, please fill out our Study Interest Form.

Neurobiology of Sensory Phenomena in OCD PATIENTS and their SIBLINGS

Are you a healthy adult who has a sibling with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)? We are looking to recruit people with OCD along with their siblings who do not have the disorder for a study looking at the neurobiology of OCD and family risk.

You must be between the ages of 18 and 60 and in good physical health. If eligible, we will ask you to come in for 1-3 separate appointments for a total time commitment of approximately 4 to 10 hours. You will be reimbursed for your participation
at a rate of 25 dollars per hour.

Neural Mechanisms of Active Avoidance in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Do you have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)? If so, you might be eligible for a research study looking at clinical symptoms, behavior, and brain function in the disorder at The Nathan Kline Institute.

You must be between the ages of 18 and 55 and in good physical health. If eligible, we will ask you to participate in 1-3 separate appointments (some may be done remotely) for a total time commitment of approximately 4 to 10 hours. You will be reimbursed for your participation at a rate of 25 dollars per hour.

During this research study you will be asked to complete a learning task while having your brain activity measured using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). We will also ask you about your health and to fill out some questionnaires about your emotions.

If you want us to contact you to tell you more about the study, please fill out our Study Interest Form.

Effects of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation on Brain Function in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Do you have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? If so, you might be eligible for a research study investigating the effects of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) on brain function in the disorder at the Nathan Kline Institute (NKI). You must be between the ages of 18 and 60 and in good physical health.

If eligible:

  • Participation involves 1 remote screening appointment and 3 in-person appointments to NKI.

  • We will ask you about your health and to fill out some questionnaires about your symptoms.

  • During each in-person appointment, you will perform a computer task while having your brain activity measured using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI; lasting under an hour), and receive a brief administration of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS; lasting under a minute) on the 2nd and 3rd in-person appointments.

  • Total time commitment is approximately 11 to 16 hours.

  • You will be reimbursed for your participation at a rate of 25 dollars per hour.

  • We will provide round-trip transportation between NKI and the NYC area.
